This Day in Women's Aviation
A Page-A-Day Calendar for 2011
Make everyday heaven in 2011 with the pioneers of women’s aviation.
Each page of this desktop calendar tells the remarkable story of an accomplishment in women’s aviation, such as:
- The Anyadike sisters from Compton, California: at 16, Kimberly was the youngest Black female to pilot a transcontinental flight and Kelly, at 16, was the youngest Black female to solo in four different aircraft on the same day.
- Miss Daphne Kearley, the first and only pre-World War II British air hostess.
These high-flying stories of courage, bravado, and just plain chutzpah inspire you to accomplish whatever you set your mind to—on the ground and in the air! Here’s a sneak peek at just a couple of dates:
This Day in Women’s Aviation is a Powder Puff Pilot product compiled by Sue Hughes, a pilot since 1996 and flight instructor. She created the first calendar in this series in 2009 to celebrate women’s unique role in aviation.
What a great idea you have had! It is a fitting tribute, and I am humbled to have been included.
- Nicole Malachowski, USAF first woman Thunderbird, featured in This Day in Women's Aviation page-a-day calendar for 2009 and 2011
The calendar is lovely. I trust you will have great success getting it out to the aviation world.
- Marsha Wright, daughter of WASP member Margaret Ringenberg, featured in This Day in Women's Aviation page-a-day calendar for 2009, 2010, and 2011
The tidbits are fascinating!
- Janet Guthrie, accomplished pilot and racing driver (retired) – Indianapolis 500 and Daytona 500, featured in This Day in Women's Aviation page-a-day calendar for 2009
[The 2009 This Day in Women’s Aviation calendar] sure is packed with incredible info. It's so wonderful to see all the names of the pilots I know. Wally Funk was my flight instructor. I got to go up in Julie Clark's "yellow banana" while she did aerobatics. (Whewee, that was something.) And of course, our dear Bobbi was quite the pilot and instigator of all things aviation. :) And so many more!
- Nanette Malher, aviation historian, creator and maintainer of www.BobbiTrout.com
I look forward to receiving the calendar. [Ruth] Elder was a first cousin to my father, Thomas W. McClellan, born and raised in Montgomery, AL. I want to give this to my dad for Christmas and I know he'll love it. He's now 82. He once had Ms. Elder's helmet and donated it to a museum in Birmingham, AL.
- Bridget M, Alabama
I'm thrilled to have the calendars and books in the Museum Shop, and have included the calendars with our featured products recognizing Women in Aviation.
- Judith Clark, Manager
American Airlines CR Smith Museum Shop, Forth Worth
I have to tell you, this calendar is overwhelming… Better than a book!
- Betty Joe Streff Reed, former WASP,
